Important: local rate for service numbers is disappearing

Do you have a 0909 or 0900 service number and do you let callers pay the ’local rate’? Then read on carefully, because the changing regulations no longer allow you to use this rate indication.
In this article, we will tell you what obligations and consequences you will face. We will also explain how this rule change can work out positively for you.
What is changing
As of October 1, 2013, service numbers are no longer allowed to use ’local rate' as a rate indication. Instead, service number holders must choose a specific rate per minute or per call and report this both at the beginning of the call and in communications.
Why this change?
Although ’local rate’ sounds simple enough, in practice it was not always clear to callers exactly how much a call at this rate cost. This was mainly because different telephone companies used different rates for local calls. With the change in the law, the government wants to create more transparency for the consumer, but as a number owner, you also benefit from this.
How you benefit from this
More clarity about call rates is more pleasant for your customers. When your callers know exactly what the rate is, the threshold to call you is lower and they are willing to stay on the line longer. This can result in more calls with the chance of higher turnover for you. A win-win situation, therefore.
