Requesting a Service Number: What Should I Consider?

Requesting a service number is a smart move. Companies that acquire an 0800, 088, or 0900 number immediately gain a professional and nationwide presence.
Since 2000, we have been handling the registration and activation of 0800 numbers, 088 numbers, and 0900 numbers.
Your Application Quickly Approved by the ACM
You might wonder if any entrepreneur can request a service number. The answer is: Yes! Any entrepreneur can request a service number.
However, every application for an 0800, 088, or 0900 number must first be approved by the ACM.
When you request a service number from Belfabriek, the application is sent directly to the ACM, the government-appointed telecom regulator.
The ACM checks whether your application complies with current regulations:
What service will you offer with the number, do you already have multiple numbers in use, and who is making the application? This might sound concerning, but in 99% of cases, the ACM quickly approves applications.
If this is your first service number, the chances of approval are highest. Applications that jeopardize the scarcity, relevance, or reputation of service numbers are often not approved outright. Of course, it’s possible to have multiple service numbers, for example, if you want to offer different types of services via different numbers.
This must be clearly stated in the application description. The desire to apply different rates for 0900 numbers is also usually a good reason to request multiple numbers.
Since 2000, we have been guiding entrepreneurs in requesting service numbers and are happy to help you find the perfect number. The application with the ACM is included free of charge in our process!
Request a Service Number Before It’s Too Late
Service numbers are scarce, especially since it’s also possible to register business names as phone numbers (name dialing).
Check in our online store whether your desired 0800 number, 088 number, or 0900 number is still available. Is your service number available? Play it safe by requesting this service number immediately!
Frequently Asked Questions:
I read that the ACM has a 2-week processing time for service number requests. Can this be faster?
Do you need your service number request expedited, for example, due to an emergency or an upcoming advertising campaign? The ACM also has an expedited procedure, where you can be assigned a new service number within 24 hours. Let us know when you submit your request.
Don’t you have service numbers in stock that I can use immediately?
We don’t have service numbers in stock. This is not allowed by the ACM. Every service number must be directly assigned to the end user. We also advise against using providers with number inventories. Besides the fact that this practice is not allowed, it often happens that these numbers were previously in use and still receive a lot of incoming calls for the previous user. Once you start using such a number and put it on your advertising materials, it becomes very difficult to manage old and new callers. Instead, use the ACM’s expedited procedure.
I already have multiple service numbers. Can I transfer them to you?
We can transfer existing service numbers to our telephony platform so you can use our telephony features and we can manage these numbers. These can be 0800 numbers and 0900 numbers. We do not connect 0906 (erotic) and 0909 (entertainment) numbers.
I have multiple people answering incoming calls from the service number at different times. How can I set this up?
On your own call team page, you can easily specify all these destination numbers. When an incoming call arrives, our telephone exchange checks who is available and forwards the call there. This ensures optimal availability of your service number. We can also automatically distribute some of the calls using a menu and based on opening hours.
What different types of service numbers are there?
There are 4 types of service numbers: 0800 (free for the caller), 0900 (paid by the caller), 0906 (erotic), and 0909 (entertainment).
Do all service number requests go through the ACM?
Yes, all service number requests are first processed by the ACM. They are the only entity authorized by the government to issue available service numbers. It is a government agency. As a telecom operator, we activate these service numbers. We handle the ACM service number request free of charge.
Is calling an 0800 number always free?
Calling an 0800 number is always free for the caller. The number owner pays the call costs for the caller. An 0800 number is therefore ideal for providing telephone service to customers and gives your business a professional appearance.
What rate can I charge on a 0900 service number?
You can set a rate between €0.00 and €1.10 per minute. You can also choose a rate per call with a maximum of €1.30. We are happy to help you determine the right rate for your service. Changing the rate later is always possible.
I see an easy-to-remember phone number in the webshop. What now?
If you see a great phone number you want to use for your business, you can request it online immediately. You will receive the ownership certificate for this number in your mail within 2 weeks. You can then start using the number as a service number for your business and immediately gain a strong nationwide presence.
Can you also activate hold music and voicemail on a service number and
record all calls for training purposes?
We can activate all possible telephony features on our telephone exchange for your number. Let us know how you want incoming calls to be forwarded, and we’ll handle the rest.
