VOIP Servers and Other Alternatives

Business VOIP telephony essentially means business telephony that works via the internet. A distinction can be made between business VOIP telephony with a central system or hosted VOIP telephony, which operates from the cloud. There are various providers offering business calling via VOIP, and in general, call quality is better than traditional ISDN lines. However, traditional ISDN lines have been phased out. Besides using a VOIP server, there are several alternatives.

The Disappearance of ISDN Forces Businesses to Look for Alternatives

With the disappearance of ISDN, many businesses are asking whether VOIP is the only solution and what the possible alternatives are. One alternative is SIP Trunking. SIP Trunking is especially popular among SMEs that want to keep their existing phone system. This method allows the same numbers and equipment to be retained. The investment in the phone system is therefore not lost. In addition to SIP Trunking, there is also the option to integrate fixed and mobile telephony into one. Various applications are available for this, allowing both mobile phones and landlines to use the same number.

Microsoft Applications as an Addition to VOIP Servers

Some companies use the latest chat programs that also include calling and video calling features. Businesses have already been using Skype for Business, but it is soon to be replaced, and its successor has already been developed by Microsoft. MS Teams is Microsoft’s new software program, which also allows calling. As the name suggests, MS Teams is primarily focused on communication between groups within a company and between different companies collaborating. These Microsoft applications are therefore not always seen as an alternative to a VOIP server but rather as an addition to support internal communication.
